VINTAGE KANTHA CARPET

This unique rug from SISSEL EDELBO is upcycled from a vintage Kantha rug.

The Kantha embroidery technique creatively upcycles old cotton saris, previously worn by Indian women, and gives them new life as garments, blankets or bedspreads.

The old fabric is layered and hand-stitched using the traditional Kantha embroidery technique. This special technique is characterized by the many rows of short, continuous stitches. This distinctive embroidery method has been used in India for hundreds of years and is especially common among rural women. Each Kantha item is unique in both print and color combination.
